South Baldwin Chamber Exec Receives Prestigious BCA Award
Birmingham, Ala. (Dec. 7) – South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce President Donna Watts was the recipient Friday of the Business Council of Alabama’s prestigious Thompsonian Leadership Award at the BCA’s and Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama’s combined annual luncheon here.
The award was presented during the BCA’s annual meeting with The Partnership that was created to unite Alabama’s grass roots chambers of commerce with the BCA’s presence in the State House and on Capitol Hill.
BCA President and CEO William J. Canary said Watts embodies the six principles of the award: challenge the status quo, seek advice from individuals outside your inner circle, dream the impossible, work with others who have the ability to think outside the box, be humble yet decisive, and be honest.
“Donna is truly a visionary who continues to ‘fly the flag’ for the continued Partnership between the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama and the Business Council of Alabama,” Canary said.
Watts, the 2009 CCAA chairwoman, has been the President of the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce since September 1997. In addition she is the President of the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation. She serves on numerous Boards including G.U.M.B.O., Business Council of Alabama, former Chairwoman of the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama, and currently is part of the Coastal Resiliency Coalition leadership team.
The award is named after the BCA’s 2003 chairman, Mike Thompson. “He is visionary who initiated the formal partnership between the Chamber of Commerce Association and the Business Council of Alabama,” Canary said.
The BCA is Alabama’s foremost voice for business. The BCA is a non-partisan statewide business association representing the interests and concerns of nearly 1 million working Alabamians through its member companies and its partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama. The BCA is Alabama’s exclusive affiliate to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers
