New Chamber of Commerce director officially welcomed to Elba

The board of directors for the Elba Chamber of Commerce hosted a “Meet and Greet” reception last Thursday evening, May 8, at the chamber office. The purpose of this event was to introduce new executive director Sandy Bynum to the community.
Bynum began work with the Elba Chamber on Monday, May 5th. Bynum said she believes the appeal of a chamber of commerce is derived two fold: 1) from its stability as a long-standing local business organization; and 2) with its ability to be a living, breathing organization capable of constant change, leadership, service, development, education, promotion, and innovation.
“The mayor has challenged us to start an idea campaign from our community…making visits, gathering thoughts of how we move the chamber and community forward,” Bynum said. “The Chamber of Commerce exists to serve its members. Thereby, the chamber can have a big impact.”
Bynum came to Elba from Mississippi where she was serving as director of the Mississippi Market and a senior manager in the Entrepreneur Center of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA), the lead economic development agency for Mississippi. She has over 20 years experience in the economic development and tourism industry. She said she looks forward to the challenges being executive director of the Elba Chamber of Commerce will provide her.
“A smaller community is just more personal, we’re more connected,” Bynum said. “Elba is stronger because our chamber is committed to making a difference. We are dedicated to moving forward together.”
