BAY MINETTE, Alabama — After months of reviewing dozens of applications and narrowing choices, the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors named Bay Minette native and international business consultant Rebecca McMillan Cheshire as the new chamber head.

Bay Minette Mayor Robert Wills said Monday he attended the final interview Oct. 30 and “was excited” about the appointment. “She is knowledgeable, has lots of ideas and I see the city working well with her.”

Cheshire replaces former director Margo Allen, who resigned earlier this year.

“I am thrilled to be joining the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce,” Cheshire said yesterday, her first day on the job.

“The North Baldwin area has a huge capacity for further growth and the community is very excited to get involved and make it happen. It means a lot to me to come back to my hometown, and my priority is to make sure that we reach our full potential.”

Cheshire has over 15 years experience managing government, non-profit and commercial businesses. Most recently, she worked as a Management Consultant at Mace Group, an international consultancy based in London, England. She worked with businesses to develop strategic plans, manage projects, secure funding, manage finances, and provided training to staff and volunteers.

She also worked with local governments and residents to revitalize communities by bringing in new businesses and industry, fundraising and organizing community events.

Her key achievements include working with the UK Parliament, Prime Minister Tony Blair and Prime Minister Gordon Brown to create national legislation, successfully securing over $4 million to develop businesses and benefit communities, and numerous television and radio appearances.

She is a native of Bay Minette and has recently returned after living in London for 13 years. She completed bachelor degrees in English and Psychology at the University of Georgia, and a master’s degree in Community Counseling at Auburn University.
