New Elected 2018 CCAA Chairman at Annual Meeting
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Heather Brothers New, President, The Chamber – Gadsden/Etowah County, has been elected Chairwoman of the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama (CCAA) for 2018. In addition, five other chamber executives were elected as board of director members during the association’s annual meeting at the Harbert Center today.
The annual meeting was a joint meeting with the Business Council of Alabama (BCA) and the CCAA.
Other CCAA officers elected for 2018 were Jennifer Palmer, President, Albertville Chamber of Commerce, as Chairwoman-Elect; Crystal Brown, Vice President of Business and Investor Development, Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, as Vice Chair for Financial Affairs; and Diane Poole, Executive Director, Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, as Vice Chair for Programs.
Board members elected to three-year terms were Anna Buckalew, Executive Vice President, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce; Crystal Brown, Vice President of Business and Investor Development, Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce; Bill Sisson, President and CEO, Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce; Donna Watts, President and CEO, South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce; and Thereasa Hulgan, Executive Director, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
Sisson was elected Past Chairman and CCAA President and CEO Jeremy Arthur was elected Secretary.
“We have accomplished so much during this year and our association has many things for which to be thankful,” Sisson said. “We continued the great work that was done last year, hosted a number of successful events, grew our membership, and positioned our association for even greater things ahead.”
New presented Sisson with the Past Chairman’s Recognition. “Together with the board members that were just nominated and elected to serve with me, our mission will truly be ‘driving prosperity through stronger Chambers of Commerce in Alabama,’” New said.
In addition, CAA presented the Jamie Wallace Award to Morri Yancy, President, Lake Guntersville Chamber of Commerce. The Jamie Wallace Award is the highest award a chamber of commerce executive can receive in the State of Alabama. The award is named after legendary Alabama chamber of commerce executive Jamie Wallace, longtime President of the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes the career accomplishments of a chamber of commerce executive who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, service and dedication to the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama.
Jim Page, President and CEO, The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, and past Wallace Award recipient made the presentation to Yancy on behalf of CCAA.
“Morri is truly a dedicated professional who seeks to see her community, her state, and her region successful,” Page said. “She has worked tirelessly over the past 20 years to give her best to every opportunity to serve, including her dedication to CCAA.”
