JOB TITLE: Director of Communications
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Communications

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate the work of the Chamber to members and the community at the direction of and in collaboration with the president and CEO
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with media outlets, while establishing and fostering relationships with writers and reporters
  • Manage publication projects, including Directions Magazine each quarter, the annual membership directory and area guide, the annual report, and capital campaign materials
  • Engage daily on social media platforms to distribute news and information about the work of the Chamber in text, images, and video formats
  • Coordination of the annual events, the bi-monthly Emerging Leaders series for young professionals, and “State of” public policy events – including State of Healthcare, State of the County, State of the City, and Legislative Update
  • Serve as point of contact for events and efforts to develop our community’s young professional (YP) demographic – specifically with Decatur Jaycees, Junior League of Morgan County and Economic Development Association co-ops to include leadership and social/networking opportunities
  • Update and maintain Chamber website, blog, and calendar
  • Update and maintain Constant Contact platform
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Vice Chair of Community Building
  • Membership inquiries and recruitmentMINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Update television in Chamber lobby with upcoming events and information
  • Track media coverage via Google Alerts
  • Provide photography support and archiving for all Chamber events
  • Set up programming events in ChamberMaster, including fees, content and updating
  • Connect with other Chamber communications professionals to discuss best practices andshare ideas
  • Other duties as assignedASSIST WITH OTHERS:
  • Assist with audio-visual needs for Chamber events and the Chamber boardroom
  • Work with other directors to highlight programs and success in their areas, includingLeadership/Networking, Business Development, Public Policy, Community Development,Workforce Development, and Education
  • Coordinate with Director of Program Development to market sponsorship opportunities for

Chamber programing and events

• Work with our local partners – Morgan County Economic Development Association, Decatur Morgan County Tourism, City and County governments, school systems, the One Decatur Implementation Task Team, and non-profit partners – to find opportunities to collaborate and share the work being done together in our community

NO SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES QUALIFICATONS:

  • Strong presentation and communication skills. Knowledge and understanding of communications practices, tools and techniques in social media.
  • Proficient in social media platforms
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Perform basic mathematical calculationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications or 5 years+ of relevant experience preferred. ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ability to work inside or outside as required by eventsSCHEDULE & TRAVEL:
  • Typically, 40 hours per week. Some weeks may require slightly more depending upon events
